Postcard and bookmark design project

So this is a really fun brief, we were tasked with designing a set of four postcards and a bookmark for a poetry festival as part of the ticket package. We were given a list of poems to choose from as the theme and ideally are to use one poem for the branding/promo set. I have had loads of workable ideas and the one I am currently working up is that patrons would be given a poster, rolled up like a newspaper, it would unroll to reveal a faux newspaper with headlines and sensationalist stories with the bookmark as the header.
the final will be printed on card heavy enough to go through the post and the cards will tear off with perforations. Here is the one I did today to test out the idea, using four of the poems. I like it, it is a workable idea and I shall do up a few more. Click pics for larger images. update: below this is one I just did today (31st), a light hearted parody on the literary world.

Order Disorder/Body Adornment brief

This brief involved a lot of research on order and disorder and then we were to find a way to break down elements and create a piece to interact with the body. I have ideas and maquettes for two full sized pieces that would interact with the body in a fairly non traditional way, the first one is intended to lock a person into a particular position or pose and not necessarily a comfortable one.

the idea is that the person "docks" into it and the structure is held together by the spine at the back as well as the person interacting with it. I am yet to make a proper maquette for this but will get to it next week.
The second one is similar in that it is about how a body fits into the structure so this one is a "chair" of sorts but not in any way a practical one, the idea behind these two pieces is to challenge the concept of form and function as being for comfort or practical purposes, neither of these fit that bill!
sculpture is made from the same pieces I am using for the final wearable option.

the idea would be to have 3 shelves and cut out a pose into the structure so the body can only interact with it in one particular and not necessarily comfortable way.. don't get me wrong, not torturously uncomfortable but enough to do what it should.

This brief is now at the making maquettes and planning final outcome stage and not surprisingly I have once again gone straight to geometry, certainly answers the order part! I am looking at tesselations and snowflakes which came about quite randomly after playing with a few clothing design ideas based on fountain pens and steam trains!
It then evolved into an arm piece that went across both shoulders
and has now become this. it really changed as I played around with different configurations of the same little geometrical pieces.

I am making the final piece out of postcards, brochures and promo flyers, stuff like that, I think it gives a nice randomness as well as colour.
So it is a chest and arm piece, will hang around the neck and the structure will extend down both arms as they are held out straight to the sides, I think this will have a pretty dynamic symmetrical effect.

Each piece is made of 3 separate pieces measured and cut individually so it is a lot more time consuming than it looks but it will be worth it when I am done. It has also given me a thousand ideas for some sculpture pieces that I would like to make.

Live to ride

I am a borderline cycling obsessive and I have been doing a load of bike themed stuff lately, must be the... weather... well, it was....
so today I made this and I am still chuckling to myself. Stay tuned for a few equally ridiculous variations on the theme.

get it here for the walls or here as a wearable parody.

positive posters design competition

Positive posters are a cool crowd that run an annual poster design contest in Melbourne, this year's theme is " a glass half full", optimism.

this is my entry, It went through quite a few different incarnations until I arrived at this design.

ways of thinking, posters.

A couple of poster ideas I put together while working on something for the theme of optimism, it makes you think in all sorts of different directions and it is quite interesting to see how far from the original idea one can get but still keeping the general gist going. I guess optimism is many different things to many different people.
I don't know, this is just where I ended up and I quite like the concept personally.

Protest posters

check out the post at design you trust by hitting the image above with info on how to buy the full size posters.

Also look out for posters here also

I have done protest art for many years and mostly in the form of collage and mixed media, graphic design gives a more classic way of using this topic as protest and propaganda art always took the form of bold easy to understand and ironically beautiful to look at posters.

T-shirts for DJs

T-shirts for djs, Music lovers, audiophiles or people that just love headphones. I am working on some new variations on the design and they can be found for sale at zazzle, skreened, shirtcity and spreadshirt and redbubble.
check em out, if you want one in a specific colour or style get in touch, I'm happy to do it.
I'm trying to get the money together at the moment to start printing out my own stuff rather than relying on the pod sites, this will give me a lot more freedom in the way I set up the shirts and let me do a lot more with the designs ensuring that you get the best shirts going.

Oh So Very Retro

I am currently working on a set of designs for caterers, chefs, restaurants and food producers. These will include business cards, menus, logos, letterhead, packaging for products, promotioal materials and so on and so forth.
Well I just happen to love diners, a lot and they have been sorely missed since I left the US and live now in The Land Without Diners, very sad for me but I digress....
This has led me to work on a very diner themed set of ideas to fill the void a little. The turquoise colours, the red of ketchup, pink of bacn and so forth.
The Sunny Side Up Diner concept is a lovely little design I think and it is infinitely workable for many applications.
See what some of them look like on a finished product.
follow updates on twitter for new designs as they come.
Bacon might be next on the horizon.

what is in the pipeline right now

At the moment I am in the process of starting my own shop, ( it will be damn awesome if not perfect, the ideal shop perfect in every way the best one in the history of life, and all that )
So I have been reworking some older designs and coming up with a good starting line up and have kicked the ball off by starting a zazzle store, just to work out my ideas on paper, as it were, get an idea of how things will look, and, well honestly to sell a few things to raise the money to open the real deal.
I qam looking to get it to the point where I am incorporating my photographs and other art as well and perhaps other people's stuff too, but right now I just want to get it off the ground and see where it goes.
Here are a couple of designs I have done, hope you like and please leave as many comments as you like, I'd love to hear what people think of this stuff.

new ideas

I am trying to take my thinking away from just stock images at the moment and am playing around with a few ideas, basically I am looking to change my approach and actually try to get myself back to art and design full time. That being said here are a couple of concepts I have been toying with and while I know they aren't anything new, hell, maybe even redundant as there is not a lot new to say, I guess it is how it is said that is important..... I figured starting simple would get me going at least.
